For more than five decades, our program has focused on genetic health, stable nerves, and proven bloodlines, combining careful selection with decades of hands-on experience breeding, training, and evaluating dogs.
While Southernwind puppies may represent a higher investment than many others, that value reflects responsible breeding practices, health-tested parents, structured puppy development, and lifelong breeder support.

STANDARD SELECTION

Our Standard Selection Southernwind puppies are exceptional German Shepherds carefully bred for stable temperament, sound health, and strong family compatibility.
These puppies are placed with Limited AKC Registration and are intended for companion homes, emotional support roles, and devoted family guardians.
Every puppy is individually evaluated and matched to the right family based on lifestyle, experience, and expectations. With more than 50 years of breeding and temperament evaluation, our goal is always the same: placing the right puppy in the right home.
Each puppy includes:
• AKC Limited Registration
• Veterinary health certificate
• Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming
• Microchip identification
• Written purchase contract and guarantees
• Lifetime breeder support and guidance
These puppies are not sold for breeding or show competition, but they carry the same genetic quality and care that define the Southernwind program.
Our contract requires spay or neuter after full physical maturity (no earlier than 24 months) to support proper skeletal and hormonal development.
Reservations are accepted with deposits, and families with deposits receive priority placement as puppies are evaluated and matched.

PRIME SELECTION

(Formerly known as “Pick of the Litter”)
Prime Selection puppies are reserved for families and handlers seeking higher-potential dogs for sport, advanced training, or performance-oriented homes.
These exceptional males and females are carefully observed and evaluated during their early development for structure, confidence, drive, and temperament.
Unlike the traditional “first pick” concept, Prime Selection does not simply mean choosing the first puppy available.
Every puppy develops differently, and every family has different goals. For this reason, puppies in this category are matched according to the expectations outlined in your Puppy Inquiry Form, ensuring the best alignment between the puppy’s natural traits and the purpose of the home.
Prime Selection puppies are placed with Limited AKC Registration and are intended for owners interested in pursuing training or activities such as:
• IGP / Schutzhund
• AKC or FCI Obedience
• Tracking or Nose Work
• Barn Hunt or other working venues
Before any breeding consideration, these dogs must demonstrate excellent temperament, working ability, and pass official hip and elbow evaluations. Once these requirements are met, AKC registration may be upgraded to Full Registration.
Prime Selection provides priority placement within the litter based on the buyer’s goals and the breeder’s professional evaluation of each puppy.
Final placement of all puppies remains at the breeder’s discretion to ensure the best match between each puppy and the home it will join.
Families placing early deposits receive priority within the Prime Selection group, allowing us to carefully match each client with the puppy that best reflects their vision and expectations.

DIAMOND PLUS SELECTION

Our Most Elite Southernwind Puppies
Diamond Plus represents the highest level of puppies offered at Southernwind Kennels. These exceptional dogs come from our most accomplished pairings or from carefully selected European bloodlines chosen specifically for their proven working ability, structure, and genetic strength.
These puppies are bred and selected for serious sport enthusiasts, working homes, or experienced handlers seeking outstanding temperament, strong drives, and superior anatomical quality.
European Bloodline Imports
Some Diamond Plus puppies are hand-selected from our trusted breeding partners in Europe, where working heritage and breed standards are strictly preserved.
These puppies come from titled parents with certified SV hip and elbow clearances and are personally selected by Southernwind for their potential and quality.
Because of international transport, veterinary requirements, customs procedures, and import logistics, imported puppies carry a higher investment—but they offer exceptional European lineage and proven genetic depth.
Advanced Raised Puppies
Occasionally, Diamond Plus may also include older puppies raised within our Southernwind development program, already introduced to early training foundations such as:
• Housebreaking routines
• Leash introduction and handling
• Environmental and sensorial exposure
• Structured socialization with people and new environments
These puppies may also include personalized one-on-one transition training sessions, helping new owners establish structure and communication from the very beginning.
Breeding and Performance Requirements
Diamond Plus puppies are placed with Open AKC Registration, but breeding privileges are granted only after the dog demonstrates both health and working quality.
Before breeding is considered, the dog must:
• Earn a recognized AKC or FCI performance title
• Pass official hip and elbow certifications
• Demonstrate sound temperament and working ability
This ensures that the quality and integrity of these bloodlines continue with purpose and responsibility.

At Southernwind Kennels, the health, temperament, and long-term well-being of our German Shepherds are our highest priorities.
Every dog in our breeding program is genetically tested and cleared for Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), and we partner only with elite stud dogs that meet strict health, temperament, and pedigree standards. These carefully selected bloodlines come from proven producers in both the United States and Europe, ensuring strong genetics and consistent quality in every litter.
With over four decades of experience in breeding, training, and evaluating dogs, including credentials as an FCI All-Breed Judge and Temperament Test Judge, our program is dedicated full-time to the thoughtful development of each puppy we raise.
Every Southernwind puppy goes home with complete documentation for peace of mind, including:
• Veterinary health certificate issued by a Florida-licensed veterinarian
• Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming records
• Microchip identification
• Birth documentation and health records
Families also receive a Southernwind educational package with helpful articles and videos on puppy development, behavior, and training—because informed owners create confident, well-balanced dogs.
Our support does not end when your puppy leaves. Southernwind families receive lifelong guidance, and we are always available to assist with questions related to training, care, health, or behavior.
For those interested in continuing their education, we periodically offer training seminars and guidance programs for puppies and young dogs, helping owners build strong communication and structure from the very beginning.
While purpose-bred dogs require careful planning and investment, we also believe deeply in supporting the broader dog community and encourage families to consider adoption through local shelters when it is the right path for them.
