Sensorial & Environmental Enhancement: Building Brighter Puppies from the Inside Out
At Southernwind, our Sensorial and Environmental Enhancement Program began decades ago during our work with the Puerto Rico Mounted Police and K9 Division. We saw firsthand how early exposure to controlled stressors—such as new textures, sounds, environments, and social interactions—helped puppies grow into confident, resilient, and emotionally stable adult dogs.
This program is now a core part of how we raise every Southernwind puppy. Through intentional, age-appropriate experiences, we help our puppies develop strong nervous systems, better focus, reduced reactivity, and the courage to adapt and problem-solve in everyday life.
This is not just training—it’s foundation building.
Because of this method, Southernwind puppies are known for their outstanding temperaments, making them ideal for service work, sport, and as balanced family companions.

Our Story: Where Instinct Meets Intention
Every puppy raised at Southernwind carries a legacy—a story of dedication, purpose, and science-backed care. Behind each carefully planned program is a lifetime of experience, passion, and heart.
Southernwind Kennels was founded by M. Cecilia Martinez, a woman born in the city but raised with the grit and determination of farm life. With over 50 years in the world of breeding, training, and working with dogs—from police K9s to beloved family companions—she brings more than knowledge; she brings soul.
Our Sensory and Environmental Enrichment Program was developed from years of observation, hands-on learning, and real-world results. While working as an advisor for the Puerto Rico Mounted Police and later leading K9 programs, Cecilia noticed something profound: puppies exposed to the right kinds of stimuli—at the right time—grew up to be more confident, emotionally stable, and eager to learn.
Our team now carries that wisdom forward in every litter we raise. We focus on:
